Overview
Explain My Surgery is a web site dedicated to helping doctors inform patients who are about to have surgery what to expect before, during and after a surgery. Written in layman’s terms, Explain My Surgery’s procedure information helps to educate the patient about what to expect. Doctor’s benefit from having patients more informed about potential complications of surgery and patient’s benefit from having the information to make an informed choice about their health care needs.

Challenges

1.	Create an interface that was easy to use for patients and doctors alike.
2.	Build an administrative site that allows Explain My Surgery staff to maintain the procedure information.
3.	Build an interface that allows multiple language translations. Explain My Surgery staff has complete control over language localization for all elements of the site, including patient interface pages, procedures, and public pages.
4.	Procedure updates cannot change the answers provided by patients before the update took place.

Solutions

1.	Design a custom and well branded look and fell for Explain My Surgery including a new company logo.
2.	Focused on usability to make the system intuitive to visitors that come to the site.
3.	Built a custom administration site so Explain My Surgery staff can maintain all aspects of the site.
4.	Built a history log of patient procedures and results of the procedures.

Results

1.	Creative: Used color and imagery to support usability goals.
2.	Project Management: Used agile development techniques to provide the client with a usable site before the entire site was completed. This allowed Explain My Surgery to start capturing members and dollars earlier than was anticipated.
